Mohammad Amir can hope to relish another landmark occasion in Taunton when Pakistan face Australia there in their World Cup match on Wednesday.
The cluster fixture at southwest county Somerset’s headquarters sees Amir back at the bottom wherever he created his come back to first-class cricket in England 3 years ago.
Amir was the rising star of world cricket when his career came to a surprising halt during a Lord’s test in 2010 when both he and new-ball partner Mohamed Asif were caught bowling no-balls on the orders of the then Pakistan captain Salman Butt as a part of a newspaper sting operation.
The trio all received five-year bans from cricket and jail terms.
That same 2010 season had seen Amir turn out an excellent display of swing bowling in taking 3 for 20 as Pakistan laid-off Australia for simply 88 on the first day of a ‘neutral’ test at Headingley.
Those skills remained intact as Amir marked his 2016 come back to the first-class game in England in 2016 with a haul of 3 for 36 against Somerset at Taunton.
All 3 wickets — together with that of former England opener Marcus Trescothick — owed a lot of too late swing.
The intervening years haven’t been simple for Amir, however, and he nearly lost what’s his 1st World Cup after taking simply 5 wickets in 14 matches before a recent one-day international series in England.
Amir failed to bowl in the washed-out 1st match against England and lost the last four games with chicken pox. England won the series 4-0.
But having been unnoticed of Pakistan’s preliminary squad for the planet Cup, the 27-year-old created it into the ultimate fifteen.
His tournament debut was a rare Pakistan highlight after they slouched to 105 all out against the West Indies, with Amir taking 3 for 26 during a seven-wicket loss at Trent Bridge.
He was in the wickets once more at the Nottingham ground, however, this time during a winning cause, with 2 for 67 as Pakistan amazingly beat tournament favourites England by 14 runs last week.
But Pakistan’s progress was checked by a complete washout against Sri Lanka at Bristol.
Match Details: Australia vs. Pakistan match will take place today, 12th June 2019 in County Ground, Taunton at 3:00 PM IST. Toss takes place around 2:30 PM IST.
